In academic year 2021/22 IUS ArtEZ is researching the following topics:
IUS – Design in ‘QUANTUM BATTERY’
The purpose of this research project is to develop the visual identity and material form of a multi-mode with the potential to provide on-demand, carbon-free, economic, and safe energy for electricity and heat applications, to satisfy consumption while meeting the challenge of climate change and without large scale static infrastructure. IUS aims to change the perception of this technology through design by applying cultural and aesthetic attributes to situate it so the QB ‘belongs’ within a physical environment. The uniqueness of this research is the intersection/combination of aesthetics, the arts (design), emergent technologies, sustainability and the perspective of citizen experience in the context of continuing urbanisation and technological disruption.
IUS – ‘MOBILE SPACES: CONTEMPORARY CHINA’
In post-pandemic China tourism and the arts are increasingly connected. How do we manage the sustainability of destinations while at the same time optimising the user experience, with the unique contribution of art and design? IUS is investigating what role art and design can play in facilitating this aim where stakeholders include visitors, local communities, public sector and private enterprises.
